Summary

The Eleventh Hour is a fabulous mystery that can turn any child into a detective. The story centers around an elephant named Horace who invites his friends over to his house for his birthday. He cooks up this elaborate feast but tells his friends that they cannot eat it until the eleventh hour. Until then they would play games. They play games but when they return to the feast, the food is all gone. No problem. Horace returns to the kitchen and comes out with trays of sandwiches.

This story book contains beautiful illustrations that are not only neat to look at but also are an activity in and of themselves. Hidden in the pictures are clues that will tell you who ate the feast since the book itself never actually tells you.

The Original Purpose

This blog actually originated as a class assignment. The first "younger reading" class I took had each student create a different note card for every book they read. The note card was to have all of the information on the book as well as a brief summary and our reaction to what we read. With my children's literature class being the second class that required a similar assignment, I decided that a blog was more practical than trying to find some place to store several hundred 3x5 notecards. Thus the birth of "The Book Shelf." I hope you enjoy my insights.
